Tour description.

It is worth to visit Staritsa because of its numerous churches and cathedrals with a inique architecture. A Holy Assumption Monastery - a complex of Ivan the Terrible times, Church of Paraskeva which hasn't got any other analogues among Russia churches, Church of Elijah the Prophet and Borisoglebsky Cathedral: samples of baroque and classicism.

Staritsa is traditionally included in the list of the most interesting cities to visit in Tver region. Established in 1297, it is one of the most ancient cities of the Upper Volga. In the times of Ivan the Terrible Staritsa, which he called his favorite city, was a royal residence of a Russian monarch. The main sight of Staritsa is a gorgeous men's Holy Assumption Monastery. It was established in 1110, and to its 900 anniversary it was fully renewed and solemnly opened in the presence of Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Alexy II.

Nearby, in the Red village, there is a church in pseudo - gothic style, built as an author's repetition of a famous church of a Chesmenskiy Palace in Saint - Petersburg. In former times, an elegant Church of the Transfiguration was a part of Poltoratskiy homestead (a close friend of A.S.Pushkin), and now it can tell us a story of the Red village and its inhabitants.
